Finding the right dental home can transform your healthcare experience from one of anxiety and rushed appointments to comfort and confidence. At Drs. Chin and Pharar Dentistry in Las Vegas, patients discover a practice where advanced medical training meets genuine compassion, creating a dental experience unlike any other in Southern Nevada.
Both Dr. Robert Chin and Dr. Jessica Pharar completed intensive hospital-based residencies that equipped them with specialized skills for treating medically complex patients. This exceptional background shapes every aspect of their practice—from the unhurried time they spend with each patient to their collaborative approach that ensures comprehensive, coordinated care for everyone who walks through their doors.
Taking the Time That’s Needed
“What’s most important to me is just doing a great job,” explains Dr. Chin. “Especially these days, healthcare is frequently go, go, go, and less personalized than it has been in the past. The quality of care suffers because of it. People feel like a number.”
This recognition of how rushed care impacts patient experience shapes their entire practice philosophy. “I really believe in our philosophy,” Dr. Chin continues. “We make sure that we take the time that we need, not the time that we have. We make the right amount of time so we can do it well, so people’s care is good.”
Dr. Pharar echoes this commitment: “Every patient is different, and everyone deserves to be treated how they want to be treated instead of how we think they should be treated. I really value knowing my patients well.”
A Truly Collaborative Approach
Most dental practices operate as separate providers working independently, even when multiple dentists share an office. Drs. Chin and Pharar take a fundamentally different approach.
“A unique thing we do is collaborate on all the cases,” shares Dr. Pharar. “Whether you see just Dr. Chin, or Dr. Pharar, or both of us, the other provider in the practice knows what’s going on in your case, too.”
This team approach extends beyond just the dentists themselves. “We believe in the hospital style approach of care,” Dr. Pharar continues. “Everyone who works in the office is on your care team—the team up front, the hygienist, the assistants—everyone is aware of what’s going on in your case, so there’s really cohesive care.”
Bridging Medicine and Dentistry
With their advanced hospital training, both doctors are uniquely qualified to coordinate with medical providers and treat patients with complex health conditions.
“We see our practice as the bridge between medicine and dentistry,” says Dr. Pharar. “We’re talking to patients’ physicians regularly, especially for our medically complex patients. We check in with your physicians to know where your health is, to see how it affects your dental health, and how your mouth is affecting your body health.”
Dr. Chin adds that this medical perspective produces measurable results: “Patients are substantially healthier as a result. It’s one of my favorite things about this practice—it’s probably one of the healthiest groups of patients I’ve ever had the opportunity to work with, not just because they came in healthy, but because when they stick with us, we can get them to a solid place.”
Caring for Underserved Populations
Both doctors have developed personal passion projects serving patients who often struggle to find appropriate dental care, creating specialized approaches for groups typically overlooked in traditional dental settings.
Adult Special Needs Dentistry
“My personal passion project is adult special needs,” Dr. Chin explains. “These patients don’t really have a place to go in dentistry. The specialists trained to see special needs are typically pediatric dentists, so at some point, as they become adults, there’s no longer anyone to service them. The healthcare system starts to fail them.”
Rather than defaulting to sedation as many practices do, Dr. Chin takes a more patient-centered approach: “Most of the time these patients need time more than sedation. You could just take an extra 30 minutes, or an hour, or whatever it takes, but it’s significantly better.”
Comprehensive Cancer Care
Dr. Pharar’s dedication to cancer patients emerged during her residency at Texas A&M Baylor College of Dentistry, an experience that became deeply personal when her father was diagnosed with cancer. “From my residency, I have a big soft spot for cancer patients,” she explains. “We treat many patients who are in active cancer treatment.”
This commitment led Dr. Pharar to establish The Pharar Foundation, which provides dental care to cancer patients throughout Las Vegas at no cost. “I find those cases really gratifying,” she notes. “The medical management part is what makes us unique, because other dentists send us their patients when they’re not comfortable managing them. Many physicians send their patients to us, too, because they know about our advanced training.”
Getting to Know You as a Person
Perhaps what patients notice most is the doctors’ commitment to truly understanding each individual. This begins with their unique “non-clinical interview.”
“One of the first things we do is called a non-clinical interview,” explains Dr. Pharar. “We sit and have a conversation with the patient, not about their dental or medical health. It’s all about goals. Do you like a lot of details or the big picture? Are you a visual person? In the past, were you proactive for your health or reactive? What’s most important to you?”
Dr. Chin adds, “The goal of this non-clinical interview is to maximize our communication with patients, so everything is clear. They have a good understanding of what we’re doing, and we have a good understanding of what they’re looking for.”
This focus on patient education and empowerment extends throughout their practice. When asked about the role of patient education, Dr. Chin responds emphatically: “Massive. It’s huge. It’s probably the majority of what we do.”
Building Relationships That Last
For both doctors, building long-term relationships with patients is one of the most rewarding aspects of their practice.
“Growing with our patients is the most rewarding part,” shares Dr. Pharar. “We’ve been at the practice for seven years now, so we’ve gotten to see some patients progress from being single and dating, to now being married and having kids. It’s really cool to be a part of their lives.”
Dr. Chin values creating a safe space for anxious patients: “It’s nice to see patients who come in really anxious, maybe terrified to see us because of a bad experience. With enough care, time, and patience, you can take somebody who was genuinely mortified to come in, and now years later, they come comfortably because they feel it’s a safe environment.”
