What Can a Porcelain Crown Fix?
Porcelain crowns can be used both for their aesthetic appeal, as well as the oral health benefits they offer. They are a versatile tooth restoration that can serve a multitude of purposes in general, cosmetic, and restorative dentistry. A crown may be recommended to:
- Cover and support a tooth with a very large filling
- Protect a tooth that has had root canal treatment
- Restore any teeth that are worn or chipped
- Protect any weak teeth, such as a cracked or broken tooth
- Cover a dental implant
- Act as a support for holding a dental bridge in place
- Cover misshapen or discolored teeth
A crown can help restore the strength and structure of a tooth that has been damaged and will be custom-made to naturally blend with the rest of your teeth.
The Dental Crown Process
The process for getting a dental crown is simple but will require two office appointments due to the custom-crafting of the crown. On your first visit an impression will be taken for your new crown. While waiting for completion of the your permanent crown, you will be sent home with a temporary crown on the tooth.
On your second visit the temporary crown is removed and replaced with your permanent one. Once in place, we will make sure that you are satisfied with the fit, bite, and appearance before we cement it into place.
For those who wish to get a crown in a more timely manner, we are happy to offer CEREC same day dental crowns.
